Cambodia Gambling Halls
Wednesday, 16. August 2023
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
